Robert Kerswell "Ample Parking" Here's a little bit about the piece, in the words of the artist: "It was painted in 2008, and was a turning point style wise for my work. Inspired by the work of Jeffrey Smart, this piece is the first of my streetscapes, and one of the first times I experimented with altering a scene to change the composition of the painting, having previously aimed to paint scenes exactly as they looked. The car park itself does exist across the street from the Sofitel in town. Some of the graffiti Tags also exist in Brisbane, very prolifically along the buildings which border the train lines. "Ample Parking" expresses the quietness of the post morning peak hour after the people rushing to work on foot or in their cars has ground to an end. The lone figure crosses what an hour earlier was a busy city street, while the morning shadows stretch across the deserted road and footpaths. " |
